How to Improve a Resume Imported from LinkedIn with AI
An illustrated review of an imported resume: use Improve with AI, inspect suggested edits, and decide which changes to accept, correct, or reject.
After importing a LinkedIn profile, you may have role descriptions in several languages, repeated skills, and sentences that are too long for a resume. Improve with AI can help edit that material. Check the import first, then review the proposed version against it.
This walkthrough covers general cleanup. If you paste a job description into the editor, the run also uses that posting for tailoring; that adds a separate question about which requirements your experience supports.
Check what arrived from LinkedIn
Compare the editor with your profile before running the AI:
- Count the experience and education entries. A missing role needs to be restored or added before its text can be improved.
- Read any removal notice. If the import cleanup removed something you want to keep, use Restore for that item.
- Check job titles, dates, employers, and locations. Translation won’t correct an inaccurate date.
- Check education fields, especially the placement of the institution and degree.
- Mark vague bullets you need to expand yourself. “Documentation” needs a description of the work before an editor can make it specific.
What you review in the editor
Improve with AI sends the resume text for processing and returns a proposed version. It can revise grammar, translate text into English, tidy bullets, and consolidate skills. The review modal lets you inspect changes before applying them.
It may also offer Suggested skills and Suggested tools. These start unchecked. Select only items you have used and can describe accurately. Review the rewritten sentences just as carefully: an unsupported claim can appear in a summary or experience bullet as well as a suggested skill.
Sign-in is required. Daily run limits apply, and Pro allows more runs. Names, dates, degrees, and employers still need a manual check after a translation or rewrite.
An illustrative review of a support resume
The person and companies below are fictional. The proposals are written to demonstrate review decisions; they are not a transcript of a measured AI run.
Source text
Headline: Technischer Support / IT Support Specialist
Summary: I support business customers and work with the development team on bugs.
Support Engineer, Halbmond Systems · Feb 2021 – Present · München
- Bearbeitung von Kundenanfragen im Second Level
- Responsible for the ticket system
- Documentation
- Working with development on bugs
IT Support, Ruhr Medien GmbH · Aug 2018 – Jan 2021 · Essen
- First level support for 200 employees
- Installation of hardware and software
Skills: Windows, Windows 10, MS Windows, Ticketing, Jira, JIRA Service Desk, Kundenbetreuung, Troubleshooting, ITIL, Hardware, Netzwerk
Before rewriting the two vague bullets, the candidate supplies these details:
- “Responsible for the ticket system” meant administering its queues and access permissions.
- “Documentation” meant updating internal support instructions. The candidate did not write the original documents.
Add those answers to the source resume before the AI run, or use them to correct the proposal manually.
Accept, edit, or reject
| # | Proposal | Decision | What to keep or change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | München → Munich | Accept | The same city in English |
| 2 | German bullet → Handled second-level customer requests | Accept | Direct translation |
| 3 | Summary → Six years in second-level business support | Edit | Remove the duration. The dates distinguish first-level and second-level roles; the proposed figure isn’t supported |
| 4 | Ticket system → Owned support operations | Edit | Use “Administered ticket queues and access permissions,” based on the candidate’s answer |
| 5 | Documentation → Wrote and maintained internal support documentation | Edit | Use “Updated internal support instructions.” Authorship of the original documents wasn’t confirmed |
| 6 | Development bullet → Reproduced and escalated customer defects | Edit | Keep “Worked with development on bugs.” Reproduction and escalation weren’t specified |
| 7 | Windows / Windows 10 / MS Windows → Windows | Accept | Consolidates the general Windows skill; keep a version separately if the target job calls for it |
| 8 | Jira / JIRA Service Desk → Jira Service Management | Reject | Preserve the tools named in the source until the candidate verifies the product and version used |
| 9 | Kundenbetreuung → Customer support | Accept | Direct translation |
| 10 | Suggested skill: SQL | Reject | No supporting experience in this example |
| 11 | Suggested skill: Active Directory | Reject | No supporting experience in this example |
| 12 | Suggested tool: Zendesk | Reject | No supporting experience in this example |
The review leaves four accepted, four edited, and four rejected proposals.
The reviewed version
Summary: Support engineer handling second-level requests from business customers and working with development on bugs. Previously provided first-level IT support for 200 employees.
Support Engineer — Halbmond Systems · Feb 2021 – Present · Munich
- Handled second-level customer requests
- Administered ticket queues and access permissions
- Updated internal support instructions
- Worked with development on bugs
IT Support — Ruhr Medien GmbH · Aug 2018 – Jan 2021 · Essen
- Provided first-level support for 200 employees
- Installed hardware and software
Skills: Windows, Ticketing, Jira, Jira Service Desk, Customer support, Troubleshooting, ITIL, Hardware, Networking
“Netzwerk” has also been translated to “Networking”; the older role’s bullets have been made into sentences. Neither edit adds configuration work, a new system, or a measured result. The employer names and dates stay as supplied.
Fill in what a cleanup pass cannot know
The reviewed version is clearer, but it still doesn’t say what changed during the support engineer’s time at either company. To add an accomplishment, ask about a specific project, recurring problem, or completed task. If the candidate has no measured result, describe the work without inventing a metric.
Read the summary beside the roles once more. It should describe the same career, at the same level of responsibility. Then edit vague phrases in your own words; there is no need to rerun the AI for every sentence.
For a final file, PDF and Word downloads require Pro. Free for now during the launch offer: sign in to download PDF or Word without a subscription. Plain text is also free, and signing in enables PNG without a watermark. Open the download and check page breaks, dates, and missing sections. If something was absent before the AI run, return to the import checks and compare it with the profile.
